Kind Words

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathic medicine is a whole system modality and form of traditional medicine, which focuses on healing through minimum intervention or as little force as necessary via dietary and lifestyle changes, nutritional supplementation, herbal and energetic medicine. It incorporates 6 core naturopathic principles and the underlying philosophy of a vital force, which are the framework upon which Naturopathy is built.

The philosophy of core vitality, a vital force within each person, is suppressed or depressed by both external and internal influences such as pathogens (viruses, bacterias, parasites etc), allergens and intolerances (such as environmental toxic metals, moulds and fungi’s, foods) and the bodies own internal microbiome dictating specific reactions that have a flow on effect throughout the mind, body and spirit.

Similarities of the vital force and certain parallels can be seen within Traditional Chinese Medicine’s Qi. this vital force can also be influenced favourably by herbs, vitamins, nutrients and positive lifestyle choices. A core central concept of Naturopathy is the healing power of nature and the body’s inherent ability to heal itself, the vis medicatrix naturae, when given the right tools.

Naturopathic principles and framework

It is through the process of naturopath as teacher or docere, that patients cultivate a deep understanding of the steps they need to take to assist themselves on their journey to health. Laura encourages and empowers clients to take personal responsibility to create these changes in their lives. Identifying, reducing, and removing the causes of ill health, the tolle causum, is a core principle of Naturopathic medicine. Laura is skilled at finding and identifying hidden causative factors in client’s health concerns and sharing knowledge along the way.

As a naturopath Laura adheres to these principles and the principle primum non nocere, the concept of minimal intervention, with the least force needed for the person. As someone experienced in sensitivities Laura understands how important it is to treat each person as an individual, with their own specific needs in mind.
